The Guadalupe River is a cold water river that empties out from the bottom of Canyon Lake and makes an ideal habitat for trout. The state of Texas created a regulatory trout zone approximately 15 miles in length starting at Canyon Dam. Special state rules and regulations do apply in this area. It is the southernmost trout fishery in the United States and the only one in Texas that supports trout year-round. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and other organizations stock thousands of trout annually. Trout fishing is best from November through the end of March.
